About

A night between two days

Once upon a time, you lived with ease. Open-hearted, connected, embracing all that life has to offer. In the blink of an eye, happily ever after became a dark night of the soul. Survival mode is your new home. You feel like a completely different person; vulnerable, unprepared and unequipped for an unfamiliar world. No matter what you do, you can't quite seem to get out of a funk. You can't make sense of what's happening but your body seems to be telling you something. You feel lost, alone, and overwhelmed on top of the problems you're stressed about when you realize your usual way of coping isn't working, or even making things worse. It feels like the walls are closing in on you. You can't stay here but you aren't certain what to do or who to turn to. You feel helpless to get your life back, longing desperately to help your child, your family, your relationship. Hope feels dangerous, but here you are anyways as you summon the courage to ask for help. Friendly reminder from me to you: You have already survived difficult things. If it's not ok, it's not the end. This is a night between two days. A brighter tomorrow is waiting for you. Exhausted, you say to yourself, "Gee, it would be lovely to live the life of my wildest dreams." Followed by, "Too bad nobody has time/money/(fill in the blank) for that." Actually, living in survival mode is not cheap. Research shows steep costs like health complications, accelerated aging, decreased life expectancy, diminished quality of life, mental health problems, learning challenges, and unsatisfying relationships. As a former professor, woman, aspiring gardener, certified clinical trauma therapist, licensed clinical supervisor, and a client of therapy myself, I know a thing or two about surviving and thriving. I became a clinician and I continue to do my own inner work to understand human resilience and healing. My personal and professional experiences teach me that darkness and change are essential to rebirth and transformation. Every winter, the garden has to be cleared of dead roots from past harvests and fertilized with essential nutrients to restore a foundation for future life. It might appear stark and lonely for awhile, but the ground is fertile, free of impediments and ready for planting spring flowers. I invite you to join me in welcoming your problems, shadows, losses, blockages, setbacks, dead roots. Therapy can thoroughly address what's not working anymore and reorganize resources needed for you to bloom into your best life. Under safe and sound conditions, we can begin anew, and thrive. Safe and Sound practices consistent with principles of neurodevelopment to intervene directly with the source of your difficulty. EMDR, Integrated Listening Protocol, and other integrative therapies facilitated by Certified Complex Trauma Professional Level 2 ensure your treatment is tailored to respond to your specific needs at different stages in your change process. You can expect therapy to support you in accessing your natural capacity for healing. My clients tell me that everyday life seems less overwhelming. They can dream about a future with clear intentions, and remain adaptable meeting inevitable changes and challenges ahead. Self-regulation, social engagement, and learning are accessible. You find your rhythm at work. Your child feels connected, confident, and calm. With the support of systemic therapy, couples and families level up team work to make the dream work with less fallout, more fun and more flow. Reclaiming your energy to thrive begins with a supportive, organized foundation, wherever you are. To find out if Safe and Sound Counseling can benefit you, schedule your free consultation today.
